No Pressure for Schmear Pressure at the 2026 NEXUS Cup

Two days of elevated team golf played out along the Manhattan skyline as the NEXUS Cup returned to Liberty National Golf Club in September 2026. Twenty teams squared off in a team match play format built to pair serious competition with unmatched hospitality, all benefiting TGR Foundation. 

Following 36 holes of team match play, nine teams qualified for the championship shootout. After the first round, five teams remained, including the four flight winners. To open the second round, Schmear Pressure knocked their tee shot to just outside three feet, securing a spot in the final round. They were joined by long-time event participants The Garbage Men, who advanced to the finals via a putt-off. 

With NEXUS Cup host Tiger Woods looking on, Schmear Pressure felt no pressure in the final round. A tee shot stuck close to the pin, a lag putt, and a tap-in for par secured the 2026 NEXUS Cup championship.  

In its seventh year, the NEXUS Cup keeps pushing the ceiling on what amateur golf can look like. The experience started before anyone hit a shot, with gift packages stocked with exclusive Sun Day Red pieces and multiple TaylorMade fairway woods setting the tone for the two days that followed. 

Monday’s rounds came with company. PGA TOUR pros Wyndham Clark and Will Zalatoris posted up on designated par 3s and hit a shot for teams that came through. For Clark, it was a return to New York, where only a few months earlier he won the U.S. Open championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. 

Once the golf wrapped, the night moved across the river to NEXUS Club New York. The evening opened with a moderated conversation led by Michael Strahan, with Woods, Clark, Zalatoris, Tony Finau and Sahith Theegala fielding questions, then turned loose with a game of Fashion Week or Fashion Weak.  

The collection of championships and victories was not enough to keep questionable fashion choices from being a major topic of debate, leaving guests laughing as the night concluded.  

Day two opened on the range, where Woods, Finau, Theegala and veteran PGA TOUR caddie Joe LaCava walked through swing thoughts, course management and what the week-to-week grind actually looks like inside the ropes. That kind of access is what sets this event apart. The competition took over from there, with Finau, Theegala and LaCava joining teams for the final round, stepping in on pivotal shots and reading greens alongside the amateurs down the stretch. 

Seven editions in, a NEXUS Cup invitation has become one of the hardest tickets in amateur golf: real competition, face time with players at the top of the game, and a night in Manhattan guests are still describing weeks later.
